  • Bring a partner or come as you are —get repetition speaking your observations aloud, and begin to untangle implication from extrapolation. This program aims to add context to the information you learned in your avalanche coursework (Content will be applicable for Avalanche 1 and 2 graduates, or for folks seeking to pursue PRO 1 level education).

  • Additional Prerequisites: Ability to ride powder, and ungroomed terrain confidently and in control. At least 1 season of touring (10+ days) on your personal gear.

  • The aim of the course is to bring a sense of ‘when’ and ‘how’ to apply the information you learned in an avalanche 1 course (Content will be applicable for Avalanche 1 and 2 graduates).

  • Additional Prerequisites: Ability to ride powder, and ungroomed terrain in control. 5 days of backcountry experience. New personal gear is OK.

Beginner Backcountry: March 2nd-3rd, 2024

Avy 0.5 - 1.5

*1 spot remaining

  • Intended for anyone just starting out with, or getting ‘back’ into, backcountry skiing.

  • You may be brand new to the backcountry with only a day or two of walking around on skis under your belt. You may have taken an Avalanche Course, and perhaps that was the only time you used touring gear. Or perhaps you were into backcountry skiing a while ago and you are just getting back into it.

Time will be spent going over the basics of backcountry ski touring in addition to two mostly guided tours that allow for questions and leadership opportunites if participants so desire. • In addition to application based, and present-conditions-dictated avalanche instruction.

  • Additional Prerequisites: AIARE 1 or equivalent not required, Little to no backcountry experience OR an extended hiatus from backcountry riding.

Program Cost is $500-$700 sliding scale.
